Picnics and Airplanes, Ducks and Plays

This week seems the equivalent of three! It’s been so long. We wrapped up the school year and checked out a week early so the kids could see cousins in Utah. Mary was in a play running this week and only had one chance to perform before our flights.

Maeser’s teacher is the most amazing woman I met this year. It would be a miracle if we got a teacher half as good as her next year.

Abe also enjoyed Ms. Redlin. Elementary school teachers are Saints.

Checking in for our flights. 28 hours of FHE!

And playing tag while we wait.

Such a beautiful place. We are so lucky to be able to come here.

The kids hit the woods before entering the cabin.

Hours of play every day.

Getting over jet lag has never been better. Enjoying the stars we don’t see back home, which is nearly all of them.

We’re raising our children in a large city across the world from these mountains. We got this place so they’d have a place to breath and experience a bit of nature every summer. Today was day one. Jet-lagged and fighting colds that beset all travelers, the children wandered the woods for hours. They came back in only for jackets, because 72 degrees is apparently freezing. 😆 I love that their hands were grimy and sappy, that shoes had to be left outside and that the water hose had to be fetched before eating dinner.
Best of all, as my son was climbing into his bunk, I watched him carefully set his alarm so he could do it all over again tomorrow.

And picnicking with Grandma Dawn. I called her Sunday after church and asked if we could come by for lunch. I told her I would bring lunch and a picnic blanket so we could eat outside. By the time I arrived on Monday, she’s been shopping at two stores, packed her own picnic and was waiting on the front porch with a loaf of day old bread so I could drive us to the park. The ducks ate the whole loaf, my children ate two sleeves of cookies, and we visited until the sprinklers came on in the park.

What a great start to our summer.
